Who is Chimata Tenkyuu?

Chimata is the stage 6 boss in Touhou 18 ~ Unconnected Marketeers. She is a God (Ichigami) who can allow the exchange of goods to happen. True ownership of an object cannot be changed without her. She was on the verge of disappearing thanks to things like covid and online markets getting in the way of genuine in-person market events flourishing. With the help of Megumu, she was able to hold a market in Gensokyo under a lunar rainbow, restoring her power. She is a character ZUN created out of a longing for the sort of special connection real-life markets offered, I believe she is a very special and unique character because of this. Lol is Chimata a capitalist? Stonks?

NO!!!!! She does not appreciate acts of buying and selling that exist purely for profit. Her power stems from the more ritualistic act of exchanging goods. In historic Japan, it was customary to hold markets in places where the borders of the mundane world and the spiritual world are thin, such as riverbanks, or when a rainbow appears. During markets like this, ownership of everything in the markets temporarily goes to the Gods before it is passed on to whoever made an exchange. She would not like capitalism and she sure as hell isn't the God of it.
